Stress, anxiety and burnout are becoming all too common in today’s workplace, with a staggering 77% of people saying they’ve experienced burnout at least once in their career.
With the Covid-19 pandemic further perpetuating feelings of isolation and loneliness amongst many workers, more businesses have begun to see the importance of caring more for their employees, both in their personal and professional lives.
The wellness of our White Rose Park community is firmly at the forefront of everything we do, and to mark International Stress Awareness Month, we recently hosted our very own Wellbeing Seminar for our on-site community. Alongside our wellbeing partners hero, the seminar focused on the topic of ‘Understanding Stress’, where attendees could learn more about the symptoms and causes of stress, alongside some practical solutions to identifying and managing the issue.
In light of this, we thought now would be the perfect opportunity to share some of the health and wellness initiatives we have in place for the benefit of our White Rose Park community.
Why should we focus on employee wellness in the workplace?
First things first, why is it so important to prioritise wellbeing in the workplace?
A key component for good employee retention and increased productivity, alongside a positive company culture and working environment, the value of employee wellness is unparalleled. When employees are happy, healthy and feel valued and well-supported, this is the time when businesses are at their most productive and profitable.
Good wellness and mental health support is now a key priority for people when searching for new jobs. Companies that are seen to have high staff retention rates and a genuine focus on wellbeing are much more likely to attract top talent to their company, whilst still retaining those that they already have.
How we prioritise wellbeing at White Rose Park
Health and wellness on-the-go
In 2021, we introduced our very own technology-led health and wellness initiative for those at the Park. Partnering with health tech and wellbeing specialist, hero, we have an app that offers everyone easy access to health and wellness support, both personally and professionally, including:
- An extensive library of tasty recipes to encourage balanced, healthy eating
- Beginner, intermediate and expert fitness regimes for those doing at-home workouts
- Mental wellbeing advice, articles and tips
- Money-saving tips and advice to help take away the worries of finances
- Sleeping tips and habit tracking as a good night’s sleep is critical for good mental health
Wellbeing workshops
Alongside our recent Wellbeing Seminar to highlight Stress Awareness Month, we also run various other workshops, classes and initiatives for the entire White Rose Park community to partake in.
Previously, we’ve hosted group yoga sessions and classes to give our community the opportunity to learn something new and enjoy an event solely focused on their wellbeing. Due to the positive response from these classes, our yoga workshops will be starting back up again soon, so make sure to watch this space for more information!
Good for the mind, good for the body
Right here in the heart of the Park, we make sure everyone has easy access to a healthy lifestyle. After all, looking after your mental health all starts with your physical health, known to reduce anxiety by around 20%.
Using local, fresh ingredients, we whip up a weekly healthy food menu that’s just delicious as it is nutritious, so that everyone on-site can enjoy healthy-eating options every single day of the working week.
And with a state-of-the-art outdoor Training Park, several cycle paths and walking routes to travel actively to work, alongside an all-weather sports pitch that is soon to be upgraded to a 2G surface, it’s never been easier to keep fit at work – no need to worry about rushing to the gym at rush hour.
Balancing work and life with ease
According to recent studies, 72% of respondents believe that a good work/life balance is essential, and is something they seek when looking for a new job.
And one of the things that workers often find hard to balance is childcare commitments. That’s why we made it our priority to support our community in every aspect of their lives, as we believe parents shouldn’t have to sacrifice anything due to a lack of childcare.
Kids Planet, our purpose-built, fun, friendly nursery is available to all parents at the Park, so they don’t need to worry about rushing around in the mornings to do the school run.
At one with nature
It’s no secret that your surroundings significantly impact your mood. White Rose Park is designed to be a space that nurtures productivity, motivation and innovation within the office, whilst still allowing for an escape into peace, quiet and tranquillity when you step outside.
When you need a moment away from the screen, our offices are complemented by beautiful green spaces and gardens like the Chelsea Garden and Wildflower Meadow, perfect for a stroll around and a moment of mindfulness. Also, we have vibrant breakout areas dotted around the Park, alongside deckchairs to soak up the vitamin D in the summertime.
We’ve created spaces that are perfect for a moment’s peace, or perfect for the chance to socialise with those around you. Encouraging socialisation at work was vital as a response to the pandemic when many felt isolated and lonely.
Life at White Rose Park
Through a combination of all the wellness initiatives currently at White Rose Park, we can strive towards creating a workplace where people want to be, encouraging a healthy work/life balance and powering towards that all-important positive shift in mental health in the workplace.
All in all, we’re developing a modern campus that looks after its community, a place where people want to be.
