Beyond Brontës at White Rose Park

We recently had the pleasure of hosting Screen Yorkshire’s Beyond Brontës programme at White Rose Park, a remarkable initiative delivered in support from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Mayor Tracy Brabin.

The project aims to diversify and develop the screen industries by equipping the next generation of creative professionals with valuable career skills. We’re proud to support local initiatives, especially those that nurture talent – here’s what was involved in the day.

A little about the Beyond Brontës programme

The Beyond Brontës programme is all about empowering young creatives with the confidence, skills, and insider knowledge they need to break into the screen industries, from film and TV to animation and gaming. This includes gaining hands-on experience with actual filmmaking processes, alongside vital career advice like CV building, interview tips, and more.

On the day of the shoot, we welcomed around 40 budding filmmakers and creatives to White Rose Park, tasked with creating a short film around the campus.

From brainstorming ideas to mastering on-set roles like lighting, camera work, and sound, the participants got the real-life experience of being on a film set. They explored critical but often overlooked areas like costume design, hair and makeup, editing, and post-production – skills that are essential for a successful career in the industry.

We’re excited to continue supporting initiatives like Beyond Brontës, and we can’t wait to see the incredible work these talented individuals will produce in the future. A huge thank you to everyone involved in making the day such a success – we’re already looking forward to what’s next!
