Buzzing with Purpose: How White Rose Park are championing sustainability through honey

By Mark Mildren April 2025

At White Rose Park, we’re proud to support initiatives that do more than just add flavour to life — they reflect our commitment to a better, more sustainable world. One such initiative is now taking root (or rather, taking flight) at Oliver’s Restaurant, where we’ve recently introduced locally-produced honey harvested from on-site bee hives.

This isn’t just a sweet treat for our customers and visitors — it’s a symbol of our shared dedication to Environmental Stewardship, Community Wellbeing, and Ethical Business practice.

🐝 Environmental: Pollinators Powering Biodiversity
Bees are vital to healthy ecosystems. By installing hives at White Rose Park, we are actively supporting pollinator populations, which in turn help sustain local flora and biodiversity. These bees contribute far beyond our restaurant — they benefit the fantastic surrounding landscapes and green spaces throughout the park.

The honey they produce is harvested sustainably by our landscaping partner – Nurture Landscapes and used directly in dishes and beverages at Oliver’s Restaurant, drastically reducing food miles and packaging waste. It’s hyper-local, zero-emissions produce — the kind of circular economy we’re proud to cultivate.

📚 🤝 Social: Connecting Communities Through Sustainability
The bee hives have created a unique opportunity to engage our community — from team members and tenants to visitors and local schools. Through bee education events, workshops, and interactive tastings, we’re helping people reconnect with nature, understand the importance of pollinators, and get hands-on with sustainability.

Our honey also brings people together at Oliver’s, where guests enjoy dishes infused with fresh, seasonal ingredients and the unmistakable richness of our own honey. It’s more than food — it’s a shared story.

📊 Governance: ESG in Action
This project isn’t just a feel-good initiative — it’s aligned with White Rose Park’s ESG strategy. By integrating biodiversity, transparency, and local sourcing into our operational practices, we demonstrate measurable progress toward key environmental and social goals.

We’re working with reputable apiarists to ensure hive health, ethical harvesting, and traceability — showing that sustainability and governance can go hand-in-hand.

🌿  A Model for Greener Business
At White Rose Park and Oliver’s Restaurant, we believe sustainability doesn’t have to be complicated — it can be delicious. Our honey is a small but powerful example of how green thinking can be embedded into everyday experiences, bringing value to people and planet alike.
